Cradle to Cradle Design, which is also sometimes referred to as "regenerative design", is a biometric approach to designing any physical good or product. It is modeled after processes found in nature The basic premise behind Cradle to Cradle design is that industry must protect ecosystems while at the same time maintaining economically viable levels of technological progress and productive activity.
In simple terms, the Cradle to Cradle cycle begins with the manufacturing of a product, follows with the product lifespan, and ends with the components being recycled back into a new product, bypassing the "grave" - in other words, landfills.
Here's an illustration of the product cycle following a cradle to cradle lifespan:

The term was coined by Walter R. Stahel in the 1970's. It is now a protected term belonging to the McDonough Braungart Design Chemistry (MBDC) consultants. "C2C Certification" is a proprietary system of certification awarded to products meeting certain guidelines.
While EKRF, LLC has not contracted MBDC to certify our Ekoroof LiteTile as "C2C Certified" by MBDC, the product does follow the same lifespan. It is produced from 100% post-agricultural plastic, has a lifespan, and can be re-ground to make more Ekoroof LiteTile.
